It was another inspiring and impactful year of shoreline cleanups in BC Parks.
As official Conservation Supporter for this initiative, BC Parks encourages individuals and community groups to take action and organize shoreline cleanups in parks and provides funding to help cover off cleanup expenses. In 2017, with the help of various individuals, community groups and BC Parks staff, 13 cleanup events were held in Provincial Parks across the province clearing approximately 30 kilometers of shoreline.
This national conservation initiative aims to inspire Canadians to keep all shorelines free of litter. In total, there were over 1,800 cleanups across the country engaging over 58,000 participants. Volunteers also picked up over 333,000 tiny pieces of plastic and foam – an absolutely astonishing effort!
