Public Art Open Call (July 17 – August 27, 2020)
Art plays an important role in encouraging ridership, improving perceptions of transit, contributing to wayfinding, and enhancing community identity. The Broadway Subway Project will include public art and Indigenous art through the Cultural Recognition Program.
At this time, the Province is seeking to commission five (5) professional artists or artist teams to create unique, highly integrated public artworks at each of the following stations: Great Northern Way, Mount Pleasant, Broadway-City Hall, Fairview-VGH and South Granville Station. Following the Request For Qualifications (RFQ), up to 15 shortlisted artists or artist teams will be invited to participate in a Concept Proposal Presentation Stage. The final selection will be made by the end of 2020.

The Broadway Subway Project is located within the asserted traditional territories of the Musqueam Indian Band, Squamish Nation and Tsleil-Waututh Nation. We are working directly with these Indigenous Groups to support a separate, and parallel, process in relation to Indigenous art and cultural recognition for the Project. Indigenous art will be featured at the Arbutus Station plus additional stations, still to be determined in consultation with these nations.
The project is being delivered through a Design-Build-Finance model to ensure the best value for the people of British Columbia. Following a competitive procurement process, the preferred proponent team selected to enter into final contract negotiations with the Government of B.C. is:
