BC Hydro work is expected to be ongoing until the end of August on Arbutus between W. 7th Avenue and W. 8th Avenue, and on 7th between Arbutus and the Greenway.

July 8, 2020 – Trolley Wire Relocation Project

Weekend work will occur July 11-12 to remove overhead trolley wires at the intersection of Broadway/Main.

July 3, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation

TELUS utility work is continuing this month between 7th and 10th Avenues, and Fir and Birch Streets, with crews working intermittently weekdays and weekends from 8:00 pm to 8:00 am. Please use caution, and follow signs and the directions of traffic control personnel. TELUS customers who will experience service disruption have been notified.

June 23, 2020 – Trolley Wire Relocation Project  

Between July 1 and September 30, 2020, sections of overhead trolley wires will be removed along Broadway at the following intersections near future subway stations:  Main Street, Cambie Street, Oak Street, Granville Street and Arbutus Street.  As construction schedules are confirmed, updates will be posted here.

June 19, 2020 – Trolley Wire Relocation Project

Weekend work will occur June 20-21 on Cambie Street from 10th Avenue to W. Broadway, including the intersection of Broadway/Cambie.

May 26, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation

BC Hydro work is continuing on Arbutus between W. 7th Avenue and W. 10th Avenue, and is anticipated to be crossing W. Broadway on the weekend of May 30 (continuing on the weekend of June 6, if required). Two-way traffic will be maintained, with temporary lane closures in effect. Work on Arbutus Street at 8th Avenue is anticipated in June, as well as some work adjacent to the Arbutus Greenway near 7th Avenue and 10th Avenue.

May 13, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation 

Between May 14 and June 1, 2020, TELUS will be undertaking underground infrastructure work between Cypress Street and Burrard Street on W. Broadway. It is anticipated that work will be taking place mostly in the westbound traffic lane. Please follow the directions of on-site signage and traffic control personnel.

May 4, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation 

During the weeks of May 11 and May 18, 2020, BC Hydro will begin work on W. 7th Ave. between the Arbutus Greenway and Arbutus Street, and continue on Arbutus Street between W. 7th Ave. and W. Broadway. Please note the timing of work and associated impacts are subject to change; road and sidewalk users are asked to follow the direction of on-site signage and traffic control personnel regarding traffic pattern changes. April 20, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation 

Beginning the week of May 11, 2020 through July 2020, BC Hydro will be undertaking work on Arbutus Street between W. 10th Avenue and W. 7th Avenue, to relocate BC Hydro infrastructure from above the Arbutus Greenway to underground along Arbutus Street.

April 3, 2020 – Manhole Inspection and Survey

On Monday, April 6, inspection and survey work will be undertaken in a manhole located at St. George Street and E. 8th Avenue (northeast corner in sidewalk), and at 288 E. 8th Avenue (in driveway). Due to safety considerations, the work at these locations is anticipated to be undertaken between 11:00 PM and 7:00 AM.

March 24, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation

On Thursday, March 26 and Friday, March 27, crews will be working across Cambie Street at W. 10th Avenue. Two southbound lanes and one northbound lane will be open on Cambie Street at this location while this work is underway.

March 19, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation

Work is continuing on 10th Avenue at Cambie Street. Work crossing Cambie Street will continue on Saturday, March 28 and Saturday, April 4.

March 16, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation

Between March 27 and April 10, 2020, crews will be working near the intersection of E. 8th Avenue and Brunswick Street. Pedestrian and vehicle access will be maintained while work is underway, and some parking and traffic restrictions are anticipated. Please follow the direction of on-site signage and traffic control personnel.

March 11, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation

On Saturday, March 14, crews will be working across W. Broadway on Hemlock Street. This work is being undertaken on the weekend and in stages to minimize disruption to traffic. Two-way traffic and movement of buses will be maintained on Broadway, as well as access to businesses.

During the weeks of March 9 and March 16, crews are continuing to work on W. 10th Avenue, east of Cambie Street. On the weekend of March 14, crews will be working across Cambie Street on W. 10th Avenue. Work crossing Cambie Street is continuing on the weekend to minimize disruption to traffic.

UPDATE: Work crossing Cambie Street on W. 10th Avenue is now anticipated to take place on the weekend of February 29, and continue on the weekend of March 7. Work on W. 10th Avenue (east of Cambie Street) is anticipated to begin on Monday, March 2.

February 26, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation

During the weeks of March 2 and 9, crews will be working on 8th Avenue between Granville Street and Hemlock Street, and temporary parking restrictions will be in effect in this block of W. 8th Avenue. Beginning March 2, laneway access on the south side of 8th Avenue (east of Granville Street) will be temporarily restricted.

February 24, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation

Crews are currently working northbound on Hemlock Street between 10th Avenue and 8th Avenue. On the weekend of Saturday, February 29 and Sunday March 1, crews are anticipated to be crossing W. Broadway at Hemlock St. This work will be undertaken in stages to maintain two-way traffic flow on Broadway. The City of Vancouver has granted a noise by-law exemption permit for this work on Sunday, March 1 from 7:00AM to 5:00PM. Please note the timing of this work is subject to change; refer to on-site signage and traffic control personnel.

February 20, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation

Crews are currently working on Ash Street between W. 8th Avenue and W. Broadway. Temporary lane closures and detours are in effect in this area. On the weekend of February 22 and 23, it is anticipated that crews will be crossing W. Broadway on Ash Street, resulting in temporary lane closures on Broadway. Work will be undertaken in stages to maintain two-way traffic flow and movement of buses. The City of Vancouver has granted a noise by-law exemption permit for this work on Sunday, February 23, from 7:00AM to 8:00 PM. Please note the timing of this work is subject to change; refer to on-site signage and traffic control personnel.

February 10, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation 

Crews are currently working on the south side of W. 8th Avenue, between Cambie Street and Ash Street. In order to minimize disruption to commercial and residential building access, temporary night work will be undertaken to cross the parkade and loading bay driveways. Night work is anticipated to take place from February 11 to February 14, between 8:00 PM and 7:00 AM under a City of Vancouver noise by-law exemption permit. February 10, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation

Utility relocation work is continuing in the South Granville area, and crews are currently working on West 10th Avenue between Granville Street and Hemlock Street. Crews are anticipated to continue northbound on Hemlock Street during the week of February 17, and working across West Broadway over the weekend of February 22/23 (please note timing is subject to change). This early work is required to facilitate the construction of a new PCI Developments building at the corner of South Granville and Broadway, which will incorporate the new South Granville subway station. February 7, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation 

On the weekend of February 8/9, it is anticipated that crews will be crossing W. Broadway at Ash Street, resulting in temporary lane closures on Broadway. Work will be undertaken in stages to maintain traffic flow in both directions. Please note the timing of this work is subject to change.

January 21, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation 

Temporary night work will be undertaken on W. 8th Avenue between Cambie Street and Ash Street, in order to minimize disruption to commercial and residential building access. Currently, crews are working in the intersection of Cambie Street and W. 8th Avenue. Once work in the intersection is complete (anticipated during the week of January 27), crews will begin moving west on the south side of W. 8th Avenue, towards Ash Street. (For more information, please refer to the notice dated December 30, 2019).

January 21, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation 

During the weekends of January 24/25 and February 1/2, it is anticipated that crews will be crossing W. Broadway at Ash Street, resulting in temporary lane closures on Broadway. Work will be undertaken in stages to maintain traffic flow, and is anticipated to take place on the south side of Broadway (eastbound lanes) on January 24 and 25, and on the north side of Broadway (westbound lanes) on February 1 and 2. Please note the timing of this work is subject to change.

January 13, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation

Beginning the week of January 13 through March 2020, utility relocation work will be taking place in the South Granville area. This early work is required to facilitate the construction of a new PCI Developments building at the corner of South Granville and Broadway, which will incorporate the new South Granville subway station. Work will begin on West 10th Avenue to the east of Granville Street, and move north on Hemlock Street and then west on W 8th Avenue. January 7, 2020 – Advance Utility Relocation

Work is continuing northbound on Ash Street from W. 10th Avenue towards West Broadway. Please refer to traffic control personnel and temporary directional signage on site.

Beginning the first week of January 2020, work is anticipated at the intersection of W. 8th Avenue and Cambie Street. Following work at the intersection in January, crews will move west along W. 8th Avenue in segments towards Ash Street. December 10, 2019 – Advance Utility Relocation

In December 2019, work is continuing along W. 10th Avenue between Cambie Street and Ash Street , and on Ash St. between 10th Avenue and W. Broadway. Business and residential access will be maintained, and temporary closures and detours will be in effect. Please refer to temporary directional signage and traffic control personnel for information about detours while this work is underway.

December 2, 2019 – Advance Utility Relocation

Beginning December 2, 2019, crews will be working on W. 10th Ave., west of Cambie Street and moving west towards Ash Street over the following weeks. Access for cyclists and pedestrians will be maintained, as well as residential and business access. While this work is underway, W. 10th Avenue between Cambie Street and Ash Street will be open to local vehicle traffic only.

November 9-16, 2019 – Trolley Wire Relocation Project

Weekend work will occur at 12th/Oak on Saturday November 9 and Saturday November 16, 2019.

Over the next two weeks, you can expect to see crews on Macdonald between 4th and Broadway, on Cambie between Broadway and 12th, and on 12th Avenue between Cambie and Oak, and Granville and Arbutus.

November 4-15, 2019 – Advance Utility Relocation

Crews will be working on Cypress Street and Maple Street at W. Broadway to relocate telecommunications infrastructure, with possible one-day road closures in effect on Maple Street and Cypress Street.

Saturday, November 2 through Monday, November 4, crews will be working on E. 2nd Ave. at Scotia Street to relocate BC Hydro and TELUS infrastructure.

October 12-21, 2019 – Advance Utility Relocation: Traffic Advisory

Arbutus will be closed between Broadway and 8th Avenue to accommodate the relocation of utilities.

October 18-28, 2019 – Geotechnical Investigations

On October 18, 21, 22, and 28, the Broadway Subway Project will be undertaking field work near Great Northern Way. This field work will include soil investigations and is being done to better understand sub-surface conditions prior to the start of construction of the Broadway Subway Project in 2020.

October 5-6, 2019 – Trolley Wire Relocation Project

Week of September 9, 2019Archaeology Work Near Great Northern Way

Starting Monday September 9, 2019, the Ministry of Transportation will be undertaking archaeology investigation work near Great Northern Way and the campus of the Emily Carr University of Art and Design.

September 7-8, 2019 – Trolley Wire Relocation Project

Expect to see crews on Macdonald between 4th and Broadway, and on 12th Avenue between Cambie and Oak, and Granville and Arbutus. Additionally, weekend work is currently planned for September 7-8 at 12th/Granville, and the Laurel Parkade Overpass at 12th.

August 22. 23 and 29th, 2019 – Geotechnical Investigations: Traffic Advisory

There will be temporary lane closures in the eastbound left lane of West Broadway, and the northbound right lane of Arbutus Street between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.  In addition, parking will be temporarily restricted along the northbound lane of Arbutus Street, north of Broadway.

August 17, 2019 – Trolley Wire Relocation Project

Expect to see crews on Macdonald between 4th and Broadway, and on 12th Avenue between Cambie and Oak, and Granville and Arbutus. Weekend work is currently planned for Saturday August 17th at 12th/Arbutus and 12th/Ash, and Sunday August 25th on 12th at Arbutus, Laurel and Oak.

August 10, 2019 – Trolley Wire Relocation Project

Expect to see crews on 12th Avenue between Arbutus Street and Granville Street, on 12th Avenue between Oak Street and Cambie Street, on Macdonald Street between 4th Avenue and Broadway, on 4th Avenue each side of Macdonald, and at the following intersections: 12th/Cambie, 12th/Fir, 12th/Burrard, 12th/Cypress, 12th Maple, 12th/Arbutus, 12th/Oak and 12th/Willow.

Weekend work is currently planned for either Saturday, July 20 or Saturday, July 27 at 12th/Laurel (TBC).

June 15, 2019 – Trolley Wire Relocation Project

Expect to see crews along 12th Avenue between Granville and Arbutus, and between Cambie and Ash; on Macdonald from 4th to 16th Avenue; and at the intersections of Cambie/10th, Macdonald/16th, 12th/Cypress, and 12th/Arbutus. Weekend work is currently planned for Saturday June 15th at Macdonald/8th and 12th/Arbutus.

June 8-9, 2019 – Trolley Wire Relocation Project

Expect to see crews along W. 12th Avenue, along Macdonald Street and at Cambie/10th.  Weekend work is used to limit construction impacts for general traffic as well as to maintain emergency vehicle access to VGH etc.  Weekend work is currently planned for June 8/9 at the intersection of Macdonald and 4th Avenue.

May 25, 2019 – Trolley Wire Relocation Project

Expect to see crews on W. 12th Avenue and Cambie Street installing foundations, poles and electrical conduits. Weekend work is currently planned for Saturday, May 25th at W. 12th Avenue/Laurel in order to minimize any potential impact to emergency service vehicles accessing VGH.

To date, approximately 140 trolley bases and 81 poles have been installed.

May 1, 2019 – Trolley Wire Relocation Project

Crews are continuing to work at the intersections of W 12th Avenue/Laurel, W 12th Avenue/Ash, W.12th Avenue/Granville, and aim to start up at W 12th Avenue/Cambie by mid-May. In addition to these intersections, crews will be working at localized sites on W 12th from Arbutus to Granville installing conduits, adjusting traffic signals, and trimming trees.  Some weekend work will be undertaken in order to minimize any potential impact to Emergency Service Vehicles that frequently use W.12th in this vicinity.

April 11, 2019 – Trolley Wire Relocation Project

Early work construction began on February 19. Crews have been working on 12th Avenue between Arbutus and Granville and on 12th Avenue between Oak and Heather. Work is moving swiftly. To date, approximately 61 trolley bases and 79 poles have been installed along 12th Avenue and at 9 intersections in the area.

March 29, 2019 – Trolley Wire Relocation Project

Early work construction began on February 19. Crews started on 12th Avenue between Arbutus and Granville and at the 12th Avenue and Willow intersection, between Oak and Cambie.

Work is moving swiftly. To date, approximately 85 trolley bases and 35 poles have been installed along 12th Avenue and at seven intersections in the area.
