Open Data Day 2018

DataBC is excited to take part in the Vancouver Open Data Day Hackathon on Saturday March 3, 2018.

Open Data Day is an internationally organized global event that promotes awareness, and uses open data to show the many benefits. Every year the event continues to grow with this year’s event continuing that trend with 332 events registered around the world.

We are partnering with Open Data British Columbia (OpenDataBC) once again for the day long hackathon.

A competition panel will vote for the best prototypes or data visualizations that help address or bring greater insight to challenges across four categories:

  • opioid overdose crisis, harm reduction and mental health
  • affordable housing
  • eliminating racism and discrimination in BC
  • helping governments do more with less

DataBC has more than 1580 datasets published under Open Government License, 33 of them added over the past year.  Open Data Day is a fantastic opportunity to leverage these datasets to answer some of these challenges, or even come up with other problems to solve. We look forward to being a part of this day and witnessing the many prototype developments!

Be sure to visit the BC Data Catalogue for data, web map services and API’s that can be leveraged in your work!
