B.C Skilled Trades Certification

What is this engagement about?

B.C. is introducing Skilled Trades Certification beginning with 10 trades. This means people in those trades will have to be a certified journeyperson or a registered apprentice to work in these trades. This change won’t come into effect right away.

We are seeking feedback on how to support trades workers and employers through this transition. There are two ways to participate:

  1. Complete the online survey
All B.C. residents can complete the online survey. We are asking for perspectives on the opportunities and challenges skilled trades certification may bring to individuals and employers.
The online survey closes on August 31, 2021 at 4 pm (PDT).
  2. Attend community dialogues and roundtables
We want to hear diverse perspectives from people throughout the province. These sessions will be grouped by location, sector, and demographics to help focus the conversation. Please note space is limited so not everyone who registers will be invited to attend. These sessions will happen from mid-June to the end of July.

How can my contribution make a difference?

Feedback from the online survey and live sessions will help government to shape the right supports and services to help people working in these 10 trades to successfully transition to skilled trades certification. A summary of all feedback will be available following the public engagement sessions.
