CleanBC Plastics Action Plan

What is this engagement about?

The Province is proposing a new regulation to reduce single-use and plastic waste by limiting or banning the use of certain single-use items. Feedback from this engagement will help create this regulation.

The regulation will complement and expand on the actions taken by B.C. municipalities and the federal government to tackle plastic waste and pollution. The proposed regulation will cover checkout bags, disposable foodservice accessories, problematic plastic foodservice ware packaging (polystyrene, PVC, and compostable plastics) and oxo-degradable plastics.

Review the proposed regulation and actions in the Intensions Paper and choose one of the options from the list to share your thoughts:

Feedback will be accepted until 4 pm on June 21, 2022.

How can my contribution make a difference?

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy will be guided by feedback received through this engagement to inform the drafting of the new regulation, and development and support of future actions.

Feedback will be collected and summarized in a What We Heard report, due to be published summer 2022. The proposed regulation is anticipated to come into effect in 2023 and be implemented in phases.
