What is this engagement about?
Our climate is changing and B.C.’s Climate Preparedness and Adaptation Strategy is helping to ensure we’re ready for it. The strategy was developed together with people, Indigenous Nations, local governments and organizations throughout B.C., and builds on the significant climate adaptation work already done to date.
The strategy is also based on the draft guiding principles that help ensure we are taking into consideration existing social conditions and challenges as we prepare for climate change. This draft strategy strengthens our capacity to anticipate and respond to climate-related events like increasing wildfires, more frequent flooding, longer summer droughts and heatwaves, while also helping us to adapt to changes that happen more slowly like changes in growing seasons, ecosystem shifts and sea level rise.
It highlights the first phase of actions we’re taking in 2021-22 to help prepare B.C. for the impacts of climate change, as well as a suite of proposed actions for 2022-25, which we are inviting the public to provide input on.

How can my contribution make a difference?
Input will be used to finalize actions and inform the implementation plan for the next phase of the strategy starting in 2022.
