Cumulative Effects Framework

What was this engagement about?

The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resources invited feedback and comments on draft policies for assessing and managing cumulative effects across the province. Cumulative effects are changes to environmental, social and economic values caused by the combined effect of past, present and potential future activities and natural disturbances.
These draft policies were developed in part from feedback that was received in 2014 and 2015 from First Nations and stakeholders on the Cumulative Effects Framework overview document, Addressing Cumulative Effects in Natural Resource Decision-Making – A Framework for Success and the Draft Policy for Considering Cumulative Effects in Natural Resource Decision Making. These documents are also informed by work in multiple demonstration areas. The cumulative effects framework allows government to take a more integrated approach to managing and regulating resource development, and look at projects from a regional – as opposed to sector-by-sector – perspective.
The opportunity for comment and feedback on the draft Cumulative Effects Framework policies and discussion paper was open until June 27, 2016 at 4:00 pm.
The aim of this engagement is targeted to parties that will be affected by or involved in implementing the provincial cumulative effects framework. Specifically, First Nations, natural resource sector industry stakeholders and ministry agencies, environmental non-government organizations, natural resource sector professionals and practitioners.

How can my contribution make a difference?

Your comments and feedback will help improve the draft Cumulative Effects Framework policies to better reflect the needs and desires of those who may most be affected by these policies. Input received through this engagement process will be considered for final versions of the Cumulative Effects Framework policies.
