Silver Star Provincial Park: Draft Management Plan

What was this engagement about?
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy (BC Parks) was seeking public input on the Draft Management Plan for Silver Star Provincial Park. Master plans were created for the former Silver Star Recreation Area in November 1980, and again for the park in 1990, but due to significant land use changes, growing popularity, and enhanced recreational opportunities in the park, the former master plans are now considered invalid.

Silver Star Park (5,573-hectares) protects old growth and mature sub-alpine forest ecosystems, and maintains the integrity of the headwaters of several major creek systems. The park also contains high spiritual and traditional values (food, social and ceremonial) for Indigenous peoples.

Silver Star Park has become a world-class destination for nordic (cross-country) skiing, and provides opportunities for snowmobiling, backcountry skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, nature appreciation and mountain biking. It also forms an important scenic backdrop to SilverStar Mountain Resort.

Feedback was accepted until January 31, 2021.

How will my contribution make a difference?
As part of the management planning process, the general public, public interest groups, and tenure holders have opportunities to provide input through a variety of means including information sessions, mail-outs, and internet-based comment forms/information sharing. Feedback gathered during the planning process helps shape the management objectives and strategies contained within the final management plan product. A final management plan is likely to be approved in the summer of 2021.
