Engagement Summary

Working collaboratively with the Governments of Canada, West Moberly First Nations and Saulteau First Nations and informed by the South Peace Snowmobile Advisory Committee, the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development has prepared a draft Winter Motorized Recreation Management Plan (Plan) for the South Peace Region. The Plan identifies proposed management measures to mitigate the impacts of winter motorized recreation on caribou recovery while retaining or enhancing winter motorized recreation opportunities in appropriate areas.

Input Leads to Action

Input gathered throughout the engagement process is being analysed and compiled into a “What we Heard” Report by a third-party contractor. This report will be made available to the public by the end of September 2021.

This what we heard report, along with the recommendations report from the South Peace Snowmobile Advisory Committee, a socio economic impact analysis, and consultation record, will inform a final set of recommendations to the Minister of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operation and Rural Development.

It is anticipated that decisions on the management of winter motorized recreation in the South Peace will be made in the fall of 2021, ahead of the winter season.
