Each of the 164 existing Stop of Interest signs tell the story of a person, place or event significant to our provincial history. Over time however, a number of these signs have become dated, worn, or lost, and some care and attention was needed in order to replace or restore them.

Along with the improvements, the B.C. government invited the public to help in identifying 75 as-yet unsigned sites of significance to celebrate B.C.’s rich history. Citizens were asked to provide their ideas of landmarks and stories that should be recognized for their historic or cultural meaning to their communities and the province. Suggestions were collected between September 26, 2016 and January 31, 2017, followed by an adjudication process.

Engagement Timeframe:

September 26, 2016 to January 31, 2017

Input received:

There were 7,269 visits to the engagement site, and 503 submission forms received.

Input leads to action:

The ministry received over 500 ideas of landmarks and stories that could be recognized for their historic or cultural meaning to your communities and the province.
