Engagement Summary<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Ksgaxl\/Stephens Island Group Conservancy<\/a> is on the northwest coast of British Columbia, approximately 30 km west of Prince Rupert, and is within the traditional territories of the Coast Tsimshian (collectively the Lax Kw\u2019alaams and Metlakatla First Nations). The conservancy contains Stephens Island, and other adjacent islands including Prescott Island, Philip Island, Arthur Island, Skiakl Island, the Archibald Islands, and the Tree Nob Group, and was identified for conservancy status during negotiations between the provincial government and First Nations governments following the North Coast Land and Resource Management Plan. <\/a>

\nThe Ksgaxl\/Stephens Island Group Conservancy protects an entire island group that has high marine and terrestrial values including habitat for numerous birds, marine mammals, and marine invertebrate species. Ksgaxl is part of a world-class system of wilderness-oriented protected areas along the north and central coast of BC. The terrestrial and marine ecosystems are healthy and productive.

\nAn important part of the process of developing a management plan was obtaining the public\u2019s views about the value of the resources in this area and the kinds of issues that should be considered. Feedback was requested on the draft vision statement for the Ksgaxl\/Stephens Island Group Conservancy.

\nA workshop was held with the recreational community and the public to solicit information and feedback for the development of the draft Management Plan.
