Lax Kwaxl \/ Dundas and Melville Islands Conservancy<\/h1>\n\n

Engagement Summary<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Lax Kwaxl\/Dundas and Melville Islands<\/a> area has a long history of use by First Nations. The conservancy is associated with Lax Kw\u2019alaams and Metlakatla First Nations (collectively Coast Tsimshian). This conservancy comprises the islands of Zayas, Dundas, Baron, Dunira, and Melville, as well as a large number of associated smaller islands.

\nLax Kwaxl\/Dundas and Melville Islands Conservancy was identified for conservancy status during negotiations between the provincial government and First Nations governments following the North Coast Land and Resource Management Plan<\/a>. This conservancy was legally designated in spring 2008.
\n 
\nAn important part of the process of developing a management plan was obtaining the public\u2019s views about the value of the resources in this area and the kinds of issues that should be considered. Feedback was requested on the draft vision statement for the Lax Kwaxl\/Dundas and Melville Islands Conservancy, and also provided the opportunity to offer specific information they would like to see included in the draft management plan.
