Indigenous Peoples Act (Declaration Act) requires the government to develop an action plan that will meet the objectives of the UN Declaration. This action plan must include consultation and cooperation with Indigenous Peoples in B.C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The four main goals to achieve the objectives of the UN Declaration are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Self-determination and self-government, including Indigenous institutions, laws, governing and political bodies, economic and social structures<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Owning, using, and developing lands and resources within First Nations\u2019 territories<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Living without interference, oppression, or other inequities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maintaining Indigenous cultural heritage, traditional knowledge, languages<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:35px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"ongoing-progress\">Ongoing Progress<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Read the <a href=\"https:\/\/engage.gov.bc.ca\/govtogetherbc\/?post_type=engagement&amp;p=1447&amp;preview=true\" title=\"\">Action Plan<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ministries will work in consultation and cooperation with Indigenous Peoples to deliver their specific actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Annual reports on the progress of the action plan will be posted annually on June 30.
