{"id":28593,"date":"2019-12-05T11:51:15","date_gmt":"2019-12-05T19:51:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/engage.gov.bc.ca\/govtogetherbc\/?post_type=impact&#038;p=28593"},"modified":"2023-03-09T12:01:19","modified_gmt":"2023-03-09T20:01:19","slug":"hwy-1-at-balmoral-road-intersection-improvements-results","status":"publish","type":"engagement","link":"https:\/\/engage.gov.bc.ca\/govtogetherbc\/engagement\/hwy-1-at-balmoral-road-intersection-improvements-results\/","title":{"rendered":"Highway 1 &#8211; Balmoral Road Intersection Improvements"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 class=\"wp-block-post-title\">Highway 1 &#8211; Balmoral Road Intersection Improvements<\/h1>\n\n<h2><strong>Engagement Summary<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure invited the public to offer feedback on potential improvements for the intersection of Highway 1 and Balmoral Road, 10 kilometres east of Sorrento.<\/p>\n<p>We were seeking input on options to improve safety at this intersection which had experienced a higher than average rate of collisions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Engagement Timeframe<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>June 26 to July 10, 2019<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Input Received<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>182 people attended the open house in Blind Bay<\/li>\n<li>116 online forms were returned<\/li>\n<li>There was strong demand for acceleration lanes to be included in the project design.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Input leads to action:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Input from the public engagement helped the ministry in selecting a design to improve safety at the Highway 1 \u2013 Balmoral Road intersection. The new intersection reconfiguration was completed in fall 2019 and has right-turn-in, right turn-out and left-turn-in movements from Highway 1 on Balmoral Road, with a protected left-turn lane.
