Westcoast Connector Gas Transmission Project (EAO)<\/h1>\n\n

What was this engagement about?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Spectra Energy (Proponent) is proposing to construct and operate the Westcoast Connector Gas Transmission Project (Project), from the Cypress area of northeast B.C. to a proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility at Ridley Island, near Prince Rupert. The proposed Project is envisioned as a natural gas transportation corridor that could allow for up to two adjacent pipelines, including an approximately 850-kilometre pipeline that would serve BC Group\u2019s proposed Prince Rupert LNG Project. If a second pipeline is developed, it would be constructed after the initial pipeline and would require further permitting.

\nThe proposed Project is subject to review under British Columbia\u2019s Environmental Assessment Act and the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012 (CEAA 2012). The Proponent has submitted its Application to obtain an environmental assessment certificate which is required before any work can be undertaken on the proposed Project.

\nThe Environmental Assessment Office of British Columbia (EAO) held a public comment period from May 14, 2014 to June 30, 2014 in relation to the Application for the proposed Westcoast Connector Gas Transmission Project.

How can my contribution make a difference?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The intention of seeking public comments is to ensure that all potential effects \u2013 environmental, economic, social, heritage and health \u2013 that might result from the Project are identified for consideration as part of the assessment process.

\nCitizens were invited to comment on the Application online, by email, fax, mail or to attend an information session in Prince Rupert (June 3), Terrace (June 4), New Hazelton (June 5), Ft. St. James (June 9), Mackenzie (June 10), Hudson\u2019s Hope (June 11), Fort St. John (June 12) and Smithers (June 16).
