{"id":945,"date":"2016-05-20T10:48:57","date_gmt":"2016-05-20T17:48:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/engage.gov.bc.ca\/govtogetherbc\/?post_type=impact&#038;p=945"},"modified":"2023-03-09T15:10:18","modified_gmt":"2023-03-09T23:10:18","slug":"the-climate-leadership-plan-results","status":"publish","type":"engagement","link":"https:\/\/engage.gov.bc.ca\/govtogetherbc\/engagement\/the-climate-leadership-plan-results\/","title":{"rendered":"The Climate Leadership Plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 class=\"wp-block-post-title\">The Climate Leadership Plan<\/h1>\n\n<h2><strong>Engagement Summary<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The feedback received during British Columbia\u2019s climate action consultation assisted in the development of the Climate Leadership Plan.<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\n<strong>Phase 1<\/strong> of consultation focused on understanding the public\u2019s ideas, values, and priorities for climate mitigation and adaptation through a <a href=\"https:\/\/engage.gov.bc.ca\/app\/uploads\/sites\/121\/2018\/07\/ClimateLeadershipPlanDiscussionPaper.pdf\">discussion paper <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/engage.gov.bc.ca\/app\/uploads\/sites\/121\/2018\/07\/Final-Survey1-Results.pdf\">survey<\/a>.<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\n<strong>Phase 2<\/strong> saw a new&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/engage.gov.bc.ca\/app\/uploads\/sites\/121\/2018\/07\/ConsultationGuide-ClimateLeadershipPlan.pdf\">Consultation Guide<\/a>&nbsp;(including an&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/engage.gov.bc.ca\/app\/uploads\/sites\/121\/2018\/07\/ConsultationGuide-ClimateLeadershipPlan.docx\">accessible version<\/a>) with the current status of government\u2019s climate actions, a summary of public feedback from the first engagement, as well as a snapshot of the <a href=\"https:\/\/engage.gov.bc.ca\/app\/uploads\/sites\/121\/2018\/07\/CLT-recommendations-to-government_Final.pdf\">Climate Leadership Team\u2019s recommendations<\/a>. The public was invited to provide feedback, including submissions, on preferences for a new climate leadership plan.<br>\n&nbsp;<br>\nSector-specific consultation also took place as part of the public engagement.<br>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Timeframe:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul><strong>Phase 1:<\/strong> July 17 to August 17, 2015\n<\/ul>\n<ul><strong>Phase 2:<\/strong> January 25 to April 8, 2016\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Input Received:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Phase 1:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>14,119 visits to the website<\/li>\n<li>5,973 feedback forms completed<\/li>\n<li>Over 500 written submissions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Phase 2:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>12,887 visits to the website<\/li>\n<li>7,917 emails received<\/li>\n<li>1,631 feedback forms received<\/li>\n<li>Over 130 written submissions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Input leads to action:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Results of Public Consultation <strong>Phase 1<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Most respondents see climate as serious issue<\/li>\n<li>Respondents clearly identified \u201cWhat We Value\u201d as top priority for cutting emissions. 45% of respondents felt it is a priority for B.C. to \u2013 Consider the cost of climate change to society when making important decisions to meet both short \u2013 and \u2013 long \u2013 term climate goals.<\/li>\n<li>Respondents also identified priorities for transportation in near term and community planning over long term.<\/li>\n<li>Respondents saw Goal 2: \u201cThe Way We Travel\u201d as an important priority for 2020 reduction target (27%).<\/li>\n<li>Respondents saw Goal 1: \u201cThe Way We Live\u201d as an important priority for 2050 reduction target (22%).<\/li>\n<li>Goal 3: \u201cThe Way We Work\u201d as a priority was split evenly over time (18%).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<br>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/engage.gov.bc.ca\/app\/uploads\/sites\/121\/2018\/07\/Final-Survey1-Results.pdf\">Read the results of Public Consultation <strong>Phase 1<\/strong><\/a><br>\n&nbsp;<br>\nRead the <a href=\"https:\/\/engage.gov.bc.ca\/app\/uploads\/sites\/121\/2018\/07\/CLT-recommendations-to-government_Final.pdf\">Climate Leadership Team\u2019s Recommendations to Government<\/a><br>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Results of Public Consultation <strong>Phase 2<\/strong><br>\n&nbsp;<br>\nOn August 19, 2016 the Province unveiled the Climate Action Leadership Plan, which will lead to the creation of up to 66,000 jobs in British Columbia over the next ten years, and will reduce net annual greenhouse gas emissions by up to 25 million tonnes below current forecast by 2050.
