Process & Timelines
The panel aimed to ensure that voices from people in the labour force (unionized or non-unionized), business and industry were heard in advance of preparing any recommendations. The consultation was an opportunity to provide views on updating the B.C. Labour Relations Code.
All input was considered, along with stakeholder consultations, verbal presentations and interviews with experts and people from other jurisdictions. All input was collected and provided to the panel for consideration in their report that was submitted to the Ministry of Labour at the end of August 2018. The report was made public in October 2018.
Further feedback on the panel’s report and recommendations was accepted until November 30, 2018.
After consideration of the panel’s report and all feedback, legislative amendments to the Labour Relations Code were introduced by Labour Minister Harry Bains on April 30, 2019 and are now in effect.
