For many years First Nations, M\u00e9tis, and Inuit patients, communities, governments, and organizations have gifted time and wisdom to shed light on Indigenous patient experiences and advocate for change. This includes public reports such as the 2020 <a href=\"https:\/\/engage.gov.bc.ca\/app\/uploads\/sites\/613\/2021\/02\/In-Plain-Sight-Data-Report_Dec2020.pdf1_.pdf\" title=\"\">In Plain Sight: Addressing Indigenous-specific Racism and Discrimination in B.C. Health Care (PDF, 6MB)<\/a> (IPS), which made recommendations about the way health care-related harm gets reviewed in B.C. We have developed this survey based on what we have heard so far to help us make review processes more open, culturally safe, and better at addressing Indigenous-specific racism and discrimination.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have developed a survey for Indigenous people to gain a better understanding of the needs, interests, priorities, and concerns of diverse First Nations, M\u00e9tis and Inuit patients and communities. The questions build on what we have heard through:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Reports, standards, and recommendations, including the 2020 report <a href=\"https:\/\/engage.gov.bc.ca\/app\/uploads\/sites\/613\/2021\/02\/In-Plain-Sight-Data-Report_Dec2020.pdf1_.pdf\" title=\"\">In Plain Sight: Addressing Indigenous-specific Racism and Discrimination in B.C. Health Care (PDF, 6MB)<\/a> (IPS)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The 2025-2027 research priorities set by Indigenous Peoples under B.C.\u2019s Anti-Racism Data Act, which include experiences of racism, discrimination, and profiling within the health care system<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Discussions with First Nations, M\u00e9tis, and Inuit patients, Indigenous representative organizations, health care quality and safety organizations, and service delivery partners<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>More engagements will take place throughout 2026 to help analyze the survey results and develop policy including with First Nations, M\u00e9tis, and Inuit communities and leadership.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We uphold the right of First Nations, M\u00e9tis, and Inuit communities to access their data, including data gathered through this survey.
