Geotechnical Investigation Work in New Westminster and Surrey – Mid-March to August 2020

Fraser Crossing Partners, the contractor who will build the new bridge, will undertake some geotechnical investigations in New Westminster and Surrey near the existing bridge, from mid-March to August 2020. Geotechnical investigations involve drilling boreholes in the project area to gather subsurface soil information.

Most work will be completed Monday to Friday between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Work may be required in the early evening to complete some of the boreholes near roads, to minimize traffic disruption.

Nighttime Pavement Testing Work in New Westminster – Weeks of July 27 and August 4

Fraser Crossing Partners, the contractor who will build the new bridge, will be undertaking some nighttime pavement testing the weeks of July 27 and August 4 as part of the ongoing geotechnical testing program that began in March 2020. These investigations are required within the project area to gather information about the roadway asphalt and to evaluate road base conditions.

Each test is anticipated to take approximately five minutes to complete. There will be temporary lane closures and truck stoppages to perform these tests approximately every 50 metres on the roadways mentioned above. Nighttime work is required to minimize disruption to daytime traffic.

Pattullo Bridge North Approach Lane Closures – July 11/12, 2020

As part of planning for the Pattullo Bridge Replacement Project, Fraser Crossing Partners (FCP) will be inspecting the Royal Avenue overpass the weekend of July 11 and 12.

Crews will be using lifts to examine the abutments of the existing structure from the bridge approach in New Westminster. On Saturday, July 11, there will be a northbound lane closure of the bridge approach underneath the Royal Avenue overpass. On Sunday, July 12, equipment will be set-up in the southbound shoulder and lane closures of the bridge approach in both directions underneath the Royal Avenue overpass will be implemented.

Updated: In-River Investigation Work near Existing Pattullo Bridge – February 25-29, 2020.

Fraser Crossing Partners, the contractor who will build the new bridge, will undertake some in-river geotechnical investigations near the existing bridge on the Surrey side of the river from February 25-29, 2020. Over the course of the work, you will see a barge and on-board drilling equipment in the river.

Measures will be taken to mitigate noise and we do not anticipate any disruption to local residents or businesses as a result. While drilling, operations will take place 24 hours per day.

The project is complying with all related environmental regulations regarding these works. This work will be undertaken in accordance with a Project Permit issued by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority authorising the proposed in water works in this location. The study area will be left in its original condition once work is complete.
