{"id":3302,"date":"2016-02-19T10:17:03","date_gmt":"2016-02-19T18:17:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/qa.engage.gov.bc.ca\/watersustainabilityact\/?page_id=3302"},"modified":"2019-03-15T15:29:05","modified_gmt":"2019-03-15T22:29:05","slug":"2009-2013-submissions","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/engage.gov.bc.ca\/watersustainabilityact\/2009-2013-submissions\/","title":{"rendered":"2009 &#8211; 2013 Water Sustainability Act Development"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The following is the process for\u00a0written feedback and submissions that occurred\u00a0during the development of the <em>Water Sustainability Act<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h2>Stage 1<\/h2>\n<p>Submissions (Dec. 2009 \u2013 May 2010)\u00a0were in response to a <a href=\"https:\/\/engage.gov.bc.ca\/app\/uploads\/sites\/71\/2019\/03\/wam_discussion_paper.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Discussion Paper<\/a>\u00a0and were summarized in the <a href=\"https:\/\/engage.gov.bc.ca\/app\/uploads\/sites\/71\/2019\/03\/WAM-Report-on-Engagement-2010.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Report on Engagement<\/a>, released in September 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Government received approximately 900 written submissions from individuals, First Nations and stakeholder groups. In addition, over 500 par\u00adticipants attended the Water Act Modernization workshops. Formal submissions were made by sector groups including agriculture, energy, forestry, local government, mining, water industry, professional, community and environmental organizations. Overall, there was broad support for the eight principles and goals described in the discussion paper. British Columbians also urged government to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Develop clear standards, processes, responsibilities and expectations for managing BC\u2019s water.<\/li>\n<li>Regulate groundwater extraction and use.<\/li>\n<li>Improve current water governance arrangements.<\/li>\n<li>Proactively protect drinking water, food production, clean energy and ecological health.<\/li>\n<li>Recognize land &#8211; water connection.<\/li>\n<li>Balance ecological protection with economic priorities.<\/li>\n<li>Respect First Nations\u2019 interests.<\/li>\n<li>Provide more time and additional opportunities to comment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Stage\u00a02<\/h2>\n<p>Submissions (Dec. 2010 to March 2011) were in response to\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/engage.gov.bc.ca\/app\/uploads\/sites\/71\/2019\/03\/WSA_policy_proposal_Dec-2010.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Policy Proposal on British Columbia\u2019s new <em>Water Sustainability Act<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0released in December 2010.<\/p>\n<h2>Stage 3<\/h2>\n<p>Submissions (Oct. to Nov.\u00a02013) were in response to the <a href=\"\/app\/uploads\/sites\/71\/2013\/10\/WSA_legislative-proposal_web-doc.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Legislative Proposal<\/a> released on October 18, 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Below please find all of the submissions received throughout the process:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/watersustainabilityact\/whatweheard\/\">A to Z Index<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/watersustainabilityact\/category\/blog\/\">Archived Blog &amp; Online Discussion<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The following is the process for\u00a0written feedback and submissions that occurred\u00a0during the development of the Water Sustainability Act.
