Highway 99 Tunnel Program
The Highway 99 Tunnel Program includes the Fraser River Tunnel Project which is the new immersed tube tunnel to replace the existing George Massey Tunnel, as well as four key Corridor Improvement projects along Highway 99 that will improve traffic, transit and active transportation between Bridgeport Road and Highway 17.
Corridor Improvements include the Steveston Interchange Project and Transit and Cycling Improvements (Bridgeport Bus Connection, Highway 99/17A Off-Ramp Widening and Bus-on-Shoulder Lanes).
The Province, after collaboration with key municipal, regional and participating Indigenous groups, began work in January 2022 on Corridor Improvements as a preliminary solution to help alleviate traffic congestion and improve transit and cycling infrastructure along Highway 99 while planning, procurement and permitting for the new immersed tube tunnel continues.
The three Transit and Cycling Improvements are completed, and the Steveston Interchange Project is scheduled to complete in 2025.
