BC Amateur Combat Sport Rules
Engagement Summary
The BC Athletic Commissioner (BCAC) invited input from October 24 until November 28, 2014 on proposed new rules for amateur combat sports in British Columbia.
BCAC developed proposed rules based on industry best practices, input received from stakeholders, and experience with amateur events in the province since the inception of the Office of the BC Athletic Commissioner in 2013. The proposed rules were regarding:
- Mixed Martial Arts
- Pankration
- Kickboxing
- Muay Thai
- Amateur Combat Sports Tournament Rules (events where athletes participate in more than one match during the event)
Timeframe:
October 24 to November 28, 2014
Input Received:
Citizens were able to view the proposed rules on the BC Athletic Commissioner website and submit their feedback by email, 23 emails were received.
Input leads to action:
Based on the feedback received, the BC Athletic Commissioner drafted and posted amateur rules for MMA, kickboxing, and Muay Thai.
Amateur Pankration rules are still being developed at this time. Any variations to these amateur rules must be approved in writing by the BC Athletic Commissioner in advance of any contest or event.
