Engagement Summary

Released in September 2011, the BC Jobs Plan became the province’s economic development plan for the future. It laid the necessary components to enable job creation, maintain investor confidence with fiscal discipline and ensure the workforce will meet the needs of the future. The BC Jobs Plan took the approach hosting a discussion forum. The initial goal of the discussion forum was to inform future BC Jobs Plan reports and activities. There were 18 online discussion topics (excluding the specific discussion called Skills4BC).

September 2011 to March, 31, 2013

Input Received:

• 286,000 unique visits
• 18 discussion forums
• 1,255 comments
• Visitors spent an average of 4:52 minutes onsite per visit
• 14,900 downloads of BC Jobs Plan, Skills and Training Plan and Progress Report PDFs
• 3,600 downloads of B.C.’s key industry sector strategies

Input Leads to Action:

The goal was to create opportunities for citizens to get involved and share ideas with government and ownership over the economy into the future. The topics that were discussed were Jobs Fairs, Career Advice, Job Search, the Tech Sector, International Students, Mining, Studying Abroad, Making BC a Maritime Centre of Excellence, Post-Secondary Education, Buying BC Food, Economic Growth, Training, Regional Workforce Tables, and Job Creation.
 
The action was to consider the feedback as part of the development of the BC Jobs Plan sector strategies.
