Meikle Wind Energy Project (EAO)
What was this engagement about?
Meikle Wind Energy Limited Partnership (the Proponent) is proposing to construct and operate a 187 megawatt wind energy project (proposed Project) located approximately 33 kilometres northwest of Tumbler Ridge, B.C. The proposed Project would consist of up to 68 wind turbine generators, access roads, connector and transmission lines and related substation and operations centre.
The proposed Project is subject to review under British Columbia’s Environmental Assessment Act. The Proponent has now submitted its application (Application) to obtain an environmental assessment certificate which is required before any work can be undertaken on the proposed Project.
The EAO held a public comment period from November 29, 2013 to January 13, 2014 on the proposed Meikle Wind Energy Project.
How did my contribution make a difference?
The intention of seeking public comments was to ensure that all potential effects – environmental, economic, social, heritage and health – that might result from the Project are identified for consideration as part of the assessment process.
Citizens were invited to comment online, by email, fax, mail or to attend an information session in Chetwynd (Dec. 3), or Tumbler Ridge (Dec. 4).
