George Massey Tunnel Replacement Project
Engagement Summary
In the winter of 2015/2016, the B.C. Government held the 3rd and final public consultation to gather input for the development of The George Massey Tunnel Replacement Project.
The George Massey Tunnel Replacement Project presents the vision, rationale and plans for improving a key section of the Highway 99 corridor and replacing the tunnel with a new bridge to serve current and future transportation needs. Final decisions will be made based on feedback received during Phase 3 consultation, along with remaining technical studies and the environmental review.
Timeframe:
Three public consultations were held between – November 2012- January 2016
Input Received:
Phase 1:
- 1,147 completed feedback forms
- 310 attended open houses
- 59 people representing 40 organizations participated in small group meetings or visited the project office
- 627 signed up for project update emails
Phase 2:
- 547 completed feedback forms
- 315 people attended open houses
- 71 people representing 40 organizations participated in small group meetings or visited the project office
- 79 signed up for project update emails (in addition to those who had signed up in Phase 1)
Phase 3:
- 1,037 completed feedback form
- 750 people attended open houses
- 412 people representing 102 organizations participated in small group meetings or visited the project office
- 258 signed up for project update emails (in addition to those who had signed up in Phases 1 & 2)
- 11 organizations provided written submissions
- 266 people emailed the project office

Input leads to action:
- Final decisions will be based on the feedback received during the Phase 3 consultation.
- Subject to environmental review, construction will being in 2017, with the new bridge completed by 2022.
- Stakeholder engagement will continue throughout construction.
