Highway 31 – Kaslo Bridge Replacement Project
Engagement Summary?
The Highway 31 Kaslo Bridge, which crosses the Kaslo River at the south entrance to Kaslo, is nearing the end of its service life. The ministry is planning to replace the bridge, built in 1966, with a modern, reliable two-lane structure.
The existing bridge is primarily made of timber, with two 15 metre main spans, three jump spans and a timber deck. The new steel and concrete single span bridge will be built to current standards and will have a lifespan of 75 – 100 years. The new bridge will provide enhancements for fish and navigation by eliminating the need for a mid-stream pier.
The project will also align the intersection of Spruce Avenue and F Avenue so that they are no longer offset.
