Highway 5 – Improvements Project
Engagement Summary
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure invited the public to attend an information session to preview plans and provide comments on highway widening and intersection improvements on Highway 5 through the communities of Darfield and Vinsulla.
The improvements are designed to ease congestion and alleviate drive frustration by providing a safe place to pass. In addition, the construction of a commercial truck pullout will allow commercial vehicles to safely pull over for inspections and to rest.
Engagement Timeframe:
The open house was held on October 15, 2015
Input Received:
26 people attended the Darfield and Vinsulla open house. The public feedback was positive and was taken into consideration by the Ministry in finalizing the project design prior to tendering it.
Input leads to action:
In April, funding for the new passing lane and commercial vehicle safety enforcement pullout on Highway 5 near Vinsulla was announced. The primary construction contract was awarded to a local Clearwater company in June 2016, and is expected to be completed in October 2016.
