Pinecone Burke Park Management Plan
What was this engagement about?
BC Parks and the Katzie First Nation are in the process of developing a management plan for Pinecone Burke Park.
Pinecone Burke Park is about 38,000 hectares, extending from the southwest corner of Garibaldi Provincial Park to west of Pitt Lake and Pitt River. Pinecone Burke Park is home to a diverse array of wildlife including all five species of Pacific Salmon, and attracts adventurers for outdoor recreation all year. The park includes Burke Mountain in Coquitlam, and Pinecone peak – the park’s highest – standing 2027 metres tall. Especially popular with mountain climbers, an alpine ridge known as ‘The Five Fingers’ has been ascended by enthusiasts dating back to the early 1920’s.
How can my contribution make a difference?
BC Parks invited the public to help develop the draft management plan. Citizens had the opportunity to provide background information and express how they would like the park to be managed. Feedback was accepted by online comment form, email or mail until November 30, 2014.
