Reconciliation Agreement with Tsilhqot’in Nation

What was this engagement about?

Feedback was invited on the Nenqay Deni Accord until February 28, 2017. The provincial government provided an opportunity to learn more about the Nenqay Deni Accord, the purpose of the agreement, the goals and objectives for the ongoing negotiations between the Tsilhqot’in Nation and the B.C. government and what lies ahead. The Accord is intended to lead to comprehensive and lasting reconciliation with the Tsilhqot’in, to help support their social and economic goals, and increase certainty about land-use in the Tsilhqot’in Aboriginal title area and the broader traditional territory.
 
Three open houses were held from February 6-8, 2017, in Williams Lake, Alexis Creek and Nimpo Lake. The Open Houses provided an opportunity to learn more about the Province’s work to date with the Tsilhqot’in Nation, as well as what’s planned for the future.
 
The Province is committed to keeping the public and stakeholders informed during the development of the Nenqay Deni Accord implementation process with opportunities to ask questions and provide feedback. The sessions were open to stakeholders, interested members of the public, First Nations and the media.

By attending any one of these information sessions, you are part of the Province’s effort to create a successful reconciliation agreement and increase certainty for Cariboo-Chilcotin residents, stakeholders and neighbouring First Nations about land-use in the Tsilhqot’in title area and broader traditional territory.
