The Province and ICBC are seeking your input for potential expansion of a specialty licence plate program for British Columbia.
Specialty plates are commonly issued in other jurisdictions as an alternative to a standard number plate. These specialty plates often use a graphic or image to represent an organization, cause, or sponsor. Currently, specialty licence plates in B.C. include the Veterans commemorative plate and three BC Parks plates.
The successful launch of the BC Parks specialty plates in 2017 shows that the people of British Columbia are interested in purchasing a unique and attractive licence plate design to display on their vehicle. The BC parks licence plate costs an initial fee of $50 and a recurring annual fee of $40. In comparison, a regular B.C. licence plate costs an initial fee of $18 with no annual renewal fees.
How your contribution makes a difference
The goal of an expanded specialty licence plate program in B.C. would be to raise funds and awareness for non-profit organizations and charities most important to B.C. motorists. Proceeds from specialty licence plate purchases would go toward the charity or non-profit sponsoring organization.
