B.C. is working in new ways with First Nations on wildlife and habitat protection. The province prepared a draft Provincial Thinhorn Sheep Stewardship Framework in collaboration with:
- Stewardship and biologist staff
- Community Advisors
- Conservation
- Traditional Indigenous Knowledge holders
- Those practicing cultural harvest
- Hereditary chiefs and councillors
The Provincial Thinhorn Sheep Stewardship summarizes Traditional Indigenous and Local Ecological Knowledge and scientific information. The Framework also provides advice on the stewardship of Thinhorn sheep and their habitats for:
- Individuals
- Communities
- Land users
- Resource industries
- Conservationists
- Academics
- Natural resource and stewardship professionals
The Framework will support:
- Preparation of regional thinhorn sheep stewardship plans
- New research
- Habitat management
- Land use decisions

Engagement objectives
There are four objectives to this public engagement process:
- Educate and inform the public on the conservation status, current stewardship objectives and approaches to meet those objectives for thinhorn sheep in B.C.
- Seek feedback, interests, opinions, and views from the public on the draft Framework.
- Identify if there are knowledge gaps or deficiencies within the Framework.
- Highlight what aspects of thinhorn sheep stewardship are important to British Columbians to inform the allocation of resources.
Your feedback will inform the final version of the Thinhorn Sheep Stewardship Framework.
