Asbestos Practices Phases One & Two – Results

Engagement Summary

The Ministry of Labour is leading a working group determined to better protect people and the environment from the harmful effects of asbestos. The group includes representatives from the ministries of Labour; Environment and Climate Change Strategy; Municipal Affairs and Housing; and Health. WorkSafeBC is also represented.

In 2017, the working group sought public feedback on ways to strengthen the regulation and enforcement of the safe use, handling, abatement and disposal of asbestos. Feedback received from the Asbestos Practices engagement directly informed the draft final report.

The draft final report, Keeping Workers, the Public and the Environment Safe from Asbestos was released for public consultation in December 2018. Below are the results of both consultations.
