In Budget 2018, the B.C. government announced it is eliminating MSP premiums entirely on January 1, 2020, saving individuals up to $900 per year and families up to $1,800 per year. As of January 1, 2018, the government cut MSP premiums by 50%.
In November 2017, the Province established a task force of experts to provide advice on the best path to eliminating MSP premiums. The task force considered input from British Columbians as part of its review, and provided recommendations on improving tax fairness in B.C. on March 31, 2018.
