About the Project
The Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) is responsible for B.C.’s social work oversight framework – set out in the Social Workers Act (SWA) and Social Workers Regulation (SWR). Under the SWA, all social workers must register with the British Columbia College of Social Workers (College) unless exempt in the SWR.
There have been longstanding calls to review the current social work oversight model. Additionally, upcoming changes to B.C.’s health professional regulatory framework could impact social work.
We launched this engagement to better understand the many voices and perspectives on social work oversight. This includes the perspectives, needs and priorities of Indigenous partners and communities, and the needs and priorities of the many diverse communities who access social worker services (e.g., people of various races, ethnicities, and countries of origin; people with disabilities; people of different religions; peoples of different ages; and 2SLGBTQ+ individuals).
