In 2021 to 2022 we led a province-wide engagement for the Anti-Racism Data Act. More than 13,000 people participated. What we learned shaped the Anti-Racism Data Act, which became law in B.C. in June 2022.

Anti-Racism Data Act

BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres Engagement Report

A total of 36 participants attended across the two sessions, including members of the Elders Council, Peer Review Committee and the Provincial Aboriginal Youth Council.

Community-led Engagement Report

Almost 70 Indigenous and racialized community organizations were awarded grants from the Government of B.C. to host anti-racism data engagement sessions with community members across the province.

First Nations Engagement Report

Government engaged BC First Nations from December 2021 to March 2022. The intention of the engagement was to provide an opportunity for BC First Nations participants to share knowledge and provide input into the anti-racism data legislation.

Métis Nation BC Engagement Report

Together with Métis Nation British Columbia, we conducted community consultations on upcoming anti-racism data legislation in response to calls to address Indigenous-specific racism.

Online Engagement Report

From September 2021 to January 2022, we ran a survey on the anti-racism data legislation. We wanted to know more about your experience in sharing identity and ethnicity data in the context of our services.


Anti-Racism Legislation

First Nations Leadership Council Report

The First Nations Leadership Council brings together political executives of the BC Assembly of First Nations, First Nations Summit and Union of First Nations Indian Chiefs. This report outlines the key interests and policy objectives of First Nations in B.C. regarding the anti-racism legislation.

Alliance of BC Modern Treaty Nations Report

The Alliance of BC Modern Treaty Nations includes eight First Nations implementing Modern Treaties in British Columbia. The Modern Treaty Nations’ collective interests in the new anti-racism legislation are described in this executive summary.

Community-Led Engagement Report

We awarded grants to almost 70 community organizations across B.C. to help them lead engagement sessions with Indigenous and racialized communities. The topics of discussion were systemic racism, healing programs and government accountability. Over 5,000 people participated in more than 225 events between July and September 2023.

Online Public Questionnaire Report

From June to October 2023, we ran an online questionnaire. We wanted to hear more on how you think we should address systemic racism in B.C.
