Get Outside BC
Categories:
Get Outside BC is a collaborative youth leadership project that aims to strengthen youth attachment to British Columbia’s great outdoor spaces by empowering youth leaders across the province. Now in its fourth year, the 2014 edition was held in Squamish July 6th – 11th, hosted by Canadian Parks And Wilderness Society BC (CPAWS BC) in partnership with BC Parks.
26 youth participants, along with 3 youth leaders from previous GOBC years, took part in the first phase of 2014 aimed at fostering the growth of our natural leaders. After a First Nations welcome, the youth took part in an event planning workshop, worked with green mentors, and finished with a white water rafting trip, all helping to build an understanding of why it is important to get youth outside and developing a skill set to lead other youth.
In the second phase this fall, the emerging natural leaders will plan and host a park event in their local communities.
