Reminder on Generator Use in BC Parks
Categories:
At BC Parks, our mission is to preserve and protect the natural beauty of British Columbia’s wilderness while providing enjoyable recreational experiences for all visitors. In alignment with this commitment, we’re providing a reminder on our generator use policy aimed at enhancing the tranquility of the park environments and encouraging the use of sustainable alternatives.
Fuel generators have long been a staple for campers seeking to power their devices and appliances while enjoying the great outdoors. However, their noise and emissions can detract from the peaceful ambiance of parks and have environmental impacts.
Policy Highlights
- Limited fuel generator use hours: To promote a quieter and more serene camping experience, generators can be used between 9-11 a.m. and 6-8 p.m. in front country campgrounds. These hours will be clearly posted and enforced to ensure consideration for fellow campers.
- Promoting alternatives to fuel generators: We encourage campers to explore alternative power sources such as solar generators and portable power stations. These options can be used at any time of day and offer sustainable ways to meet energy needs while minimizing environmental impacts.
- BC Parks also offers electrified campsites in some parks. To find parks with electrified campsites, visit the “Find a Park” page, look under “Facilities” on the lefthand side, then select “Electrical hook-ups”.
Why The Reminder?
The decision to provide a reminder on our generator use policy stems from our commitment to environmental stewardship and visitor enjoyment. By reducing noise pollution and emissions associated with fuel generator use, we aim to create a more harmonious camping experience and protect the natural integrity of parks for future generations.
How You Can Help
As stewards of parks, we rely on the cooperation and support of our visitors to uphold these policies. Here’s how you can contribute:
1. Respect permitted generator use hours: 9-11 a.m. and 6-8 p.m. in all parks
2. Consider alternative power sources to minimize noise and emissions.
3. Educate fellow campers about the importance of responsible generator use.
4. Provide feedback to park staff about your experience and suggestions for improvement.
Moving Forward
As we continue to adapt and evolve our policies, we remain committed to fostering a deep connection between people and nature in BC Parks.
Thank you for your cooperation and dedication to preserving the beauty of BC Parks. Together, we can ensure that BC Parks remain treasured destinations for generations to come.
