Rebuilding the Berg Lake Trail – 2024 update
Categories:
Since 2022, BC Parks has been rebuilding the Berg Lake Trail, after a major flood washed out part of the trail and damaged other facilities like bridges and picnic tables.
We have a three-phase plan to rebuild and reopen the trail, which is set to be completed in 2025. We’re working with experts and partners to restore the trail and amenities with climate resiliency in mind so people can enjoy it for generations to come. Phase one of the plan involved extensive work on the first seven kilometres of the trail, from the trailhead to Kinney Lake campground. At the trailhead, the parking lot was expanded, and a new bridge was installed. At Kinney Lake campground, four new tent pads and picnic tables, one pit toilet, and several benches were constructed. This section of the trail reopened in 2023 for both day-use and overnight camping. Phase two reconnects the Kinney Lake and Whitehorn campgrounds and includes a new trail route and new bridges at the far end of Kinney Lake and over the Robson River.
People can reserve Kinney Lake campground for the 2024 camping season from May 31 to September 29. Reservations can be made up to four months in advance.
Phase two will be completed this year with first come, first serve camping at Whitehorn campground available from June 21 to July 1st. To pay and ensure tent pad availability for first come, first serve camping, campers must check-in at the Visitor Centre before camping at Whitehorn. Reservations for Whitehorn are required for all stays between July 2nd and September 29th. Reservations will open at 7 am Wednesday June 26 at camping.bcparks.ca. Hikers will be using the old trail between Kinney and Whitehorn, and the trail beyond Whitehorn campground will remain closed due to ongoing construction. The entire Berg Lake Trail is expected to reopen in 2025.
We thank you for your ongoing patience and look forward to welcoming you back to the Kinney Lake and Whitehorn campgrounds this year. To book a campsite, please visit camping.bcparks.ca
