What was this engagement about?
The Province is required to review and update the Declaration Act Action Plan (2022-2027) to ensure continued alignment with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UN Declaration) and B.C.’s Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (Declaration Act), and to do so in consultation and co-operation with Indigenous Peoples.
This engagement was focused on reviewing the current action plan. The review will evaluate progress and highlight lessons learned. It will also help inform an updated action plan by the end of 2027.

Engagement now closed
The engagement phase of the action plan review is now closed. Engagement was open from March 10 to July 31, 2026.
Thank you to those who provided valuable thoughts and insights. The Declaration Act Secretariat is analyzing feedback from various engagement methods to help inform the action plan update.
Next steps
The action plan update will begin in early 2027. The update phase is expected to include continued consultation and co-operation with Indigenous Peoples in B.C and broader public engagement.

- Indigenous partners and organizations
- Stakeholders involved in developing or implementing the current Action Plan
Opportunity for broader public input on an updated action plan is expected to follow in early 2027.
