Engagement Summary
Volunteers are a vital part of protecting, maintaining, and improving BC Parks. They are engaged with many activities, including:
- Campground hosts
- Facility restorations
- Interpretation
- Park Watch
- Ecological reserve wardens
- Tresspass monitoring
- Invasive plant control
- Trail & campsite construction and maintenance
- Fundraising
- Educational programs
- Park management and planning
There is now a need for improved coordination and communication with volunteers. This will enhance their experience and ensure BC Parks is able to recruit and retain the talented and committed people it needs.
BC Parks developed a volunteer strategy. Throughout February and March 2012, Parks staff held eleven workshops across the province. An online survey was posted to request input from citizens on this strategy.
Results
- 200 workshop participants
- 600 survey respondents
- 100 BC Parks employees participated in staff workshops
