Engagement summary
Critical minerals like copper, lithium, and molybdenum are essential components in products used for clean energy, digital technology, telecommunications, healthcare, and others. They’re necessary for manufacturing:
- Electric vehicles
- Solar panels
- Wind turbines
- Electrical transmission lines
- Batteries
- Mobile phones
- Medical devices
Mineral exploration and mining are fundamental to B.C.’s economy, especially in rural and remote communities. This contribution could grow significantly with expanded critical mineral development.
In 2022, the sector:
- Contributed $17.5 billion in production value
- Contributed $740 million in exploration expenditures
- Contributed $7.3 billion (3%) to B.C.’s gross domestic product
- Employed over 35,000 workers
A Critical Minerals Strategy will help B.C. build on these strengths and take advantage of the global transition to greener economies.
