Engagement Summary
BC Parks is developed a Fire Management Plan for Lac du Bois Grasslands Protected Area. The purpose of the Fire Management Plan is to action the long-term strategies and to build upon the management directions in the Lac du Bois Grasslands Protected Area draft Management Plan: protect, manage, and restore protected area vegetation for a diversity of plant species and communities and for its contribution to ecosystem representation, wildlife habitat, biodiversity and aesthetics, and inherent value.
The objectives of the Fire Management Plan are to provide an ecosystem-based framework for fire management within the protected area, and recommendations to reduce negative effects of wildfire to the protected area’s values, as well as values adjacent to the protected area. BC Parks appreciates that there is a high level of local interest, due in part to the proximity of the protected area to the City of Kamloops, the visibility of fire on the landscape, and the involvement of numerous partner and stakeholder groups in the area.
BC Parks engaged with park users, stakeholders, volunteer groups, and partners on opportunities for collaboration. This will help our team determine the level of interest and identify ways we can work together to further develop and implement the draft Fire Management Plan.
