Engagement summary
We would like to hear your values and priorities for forests in Mackenzie.
The Mackenzie Timber Supply Area (TSA) is over 6 million hectares in the Omineca Region of northern British Columbia. First Nations peoples have resided on the lands within the Mackenzie TSA since time immemorial, and these lands are home to many animals, plants and ecosystems.
The project goal is to develop a Forest Landscape Plan (FLP) that reflects the values of First Nations peoples and local communities while supporting a sustainable forest sector.
The vast forests and pristine lakes in the Mackenzie region offer many recreational opportunities such as fishing, hiking, camping and boating enjoyed by outdoor enthusiasts.
Local forestry and resource sectors, including sawmills and other processing facilities, are important to communities in the region, providing jobs and economic opportunities.
The FLP will guide forest management within the TSA. The scope of the plan includes:
- Harvesting (where and where not)
- Forestry practices
- Forestry access management/practices
- Forest health guidance/expectations
- Stand establishment
- Vegetative Management Treatments (spacing, thinning, etc.)
- Wildfire plan/risk reduction
The Mackenzie FLP will establish clear directions for managing forest-related values such as old-growth trees, biodiversity, ecosystem health, climate change, watershed health, and wildfire risk.

How your contribution makes a difference
The Mackenzie Forest Landscape Planning Project is in Phase 2 of the 5-phase process for developing a FLP. This phase focuses on “values identification and assessment” for FLP. This involves learning the values local communities place on forest ecosystems to inform future forest management approaches
