Placer mining is the practice of separating precious minerals from sand or gravel. The Province examined options for a new fee structure and mineral tax system for this industry.
A discussion paper put forward ideas for cost-recovery options that are more fair across all mining sectors. The paper also includes feedback from Indigenous Nations.
Feedback was sought on potential options that would inform both permit fees and mineral tax rates.

Through ongoing discussion with First Nations and the Placer Mining Association, the ministry released a Placer Revenue Intentions Paper. This Paper outlines the revenue model that will be proposed to cabinet. Cabinet’s decision will determine future amendments to the Mines Fee Regulation and the Mineral Tax Act.
