Engagement summary
The Thompson River Watersheds Forest Landscape Plan (TRW FLP) project is bringing together First Nations, the Province, forest licensees, and local communities to help:
- Guide sustainable forest management
- Address wildfire risk
- Address biodiversity
- Address climate change
The TRW FLP is in the Thompson Okanagan region. It includes the South Thompson Watershed within the Okanagan Timber Supply Area and the Kamloops Timber Supply Area (excluding the Nicola River Watershed).
The TRW FLP will support long-term ecosystem health and provide economic opportunities. This will ensure that forests remain resilient and continue to meet cultural, recreational, and industrial needs. A commitment to partnership with First Nations and the inclusion of ecological, cultural, and community values are central to the FLP. The plan will guide forest practices at both the landscape and site level.
Project goals
The goal of the TRW FLP is to create a plan that will:
- Incorporate and respect First Nations’ knowledge, innovations, principles, rights, laws, and practices
- Manage the values First Nations and local communities place on forest ecosystems
- Support environmental protection and conservation
- Support the production and timber supply within the area
- Prevent, mitigate, and adapt to significant impacts to forests and their health

How your contribution makes a difference
The TRW FLP project is in Phase 2 of the 5-phase process for developing a FLP.
This phase focuses on “values identification and assessment” for FLPs. This involves learning the values local communities place on forest ecosystems to inform future forest management approaches.
The TRW FLP Planning Team believes that engaging with the public in a meaningful way is vital to building public support. Public input gathered through our engagement efforts will enhance the planning process by deepening our understanding of community values and priorities while also building trust. This input will support a shared, long‑term approach to healthy, resilient forests across the FLP boundary area.
Together we can build a path forward that honours Indigenous leadership, strengthens forest stewardship, and supports resilient communities and ecosystems for generations to come.
