Engagement summary
On March 14, 2023, the Province announced the new energy action framework. The framework will strengthen B.C.’s economy by powering to more homes, businesses, and industries with renewable electricity.
On June 15, 2023, the Province announced BC Hydro’s intention to move forward with a call for new sources of renewable electricity to power B.C.’s growing economy and create new jobs. The Province is also providing $140 million to the BC Indigenous Clean Energy Initiative (BCICEI) to support smaller, grid-connected Indigenous-led power projects, create economic opportunities for First Nations, and advance community self-determination.
The BC Hydro Task Force is working to provide strategic advice to the Province with a focus on the following areas:
- Improving the speed of permitting and delivery of required infrastructure
- Modernizing regulatory framework to better align with government priorities while protecting customers
- Identifying, enabling, and accelerating economic opportunities in clean energy, including opportunities for Indigenous Nations
