Watershed Security Strategy
In early 2022, the Province started engagement on the Watershed Security Strategy (the Strategy) through a discussion paper. The Province heard from respondents that water and watersheds were very important to the social, cultural, environmental and economic wellbeing of society. However, unsustainable water and land use, cumulative impacts of developments, invasive species and population growth are putting these values at risk. Climate change is making ecosystems and communities even more vulnerable to disasters like flood and drought.
Building on feedback, the Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship is now at the mid-way point of developing the Strategy and Fund and we want to hear from you.
The Intentions Paper sets out five key policy intentions where government wants to take action. Each policy intention shares three or four themes and examples of what action in each area might look like.
Governments, organizations, businesses and other interested parties are welcome to continue the discussion with us through a govTogetherBC questionnaire or written response.
The engagement period is from March 6, 2023 to April 17, 2022. Input received during this period will be summarized in a “What We Heard Report”. We are willing to receive more feedback after this date, but it will not be included in the summary report.
Your input during this period of engagement will inform development of the Strategy. The Province expects to release the final Strategy in 2023.
